Philips & Desso Partnership

Philips and Desso has announced their partnership. 
The reason behind this cooperation is really interesting. These two companies will work together to develop a carpet with LED lighting. The draft photos are pretty good. The product name will be revealed in 2014 as part of the full go-to-market launch. But they've already started to apply pilot projects at countries. Let see how soon it will start to be used at big projects??

Fish Lamps by Frank Gehry

Architect Frank Gehry has presented a new collection of his glowing Fish Lamps made of jagged plastic scales. Frank Gehry first produced his Fish Lamps between 1984 and 1986 using the then-new plastic laminate ColorCore.

Osram Sells the CFL Factory


Of course growing LED business is going to impact conventional solutions. Latest news are from Osram..
Osram have been already launched a saving program. The target for the total saving amount was 865 billion EUR. As a part of this program Osram announced that, their (mainly CFL produced) factory based in Shaoxing, China will be sold to Super Trend Lighting Group. Osram management says that, this decision is inline with their LED growth plans.

Regarding the latest news, one of the main actors of lighting Acuity Brands which already owns several brands has just acquired eldoLED which is an intelligent drivers manufacturer for LED-based lighting systems. (Terms of the acquisition have not been announced yet)

They say DESIGN is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system. And it has different connotations in different fields. If we talk about LIGHTING DESIGN, it had been mostly considering a design for stage, theatre or visual show lighting for many years. 

But day by day its architectural part has become more and more important and people imagine famous buildings with light when 'lighting design' is mentioned.

So, architectural lighting design is a career right now. And there are many professional lighting designers around the world. The objective of architectural lighting design is to obtain sufficient light for the purposes of the building, balancing factors of initial and operating cost, appearance and energy efficiency.

Worldwide LED Component Market Grows 9% With Lighting Ranking First Among All


LED component revenue for lighting applications reached $3.11 billion in 2012, narrowly dethroning the Large Area Display Backlight segment at $3.06 billion, according to Strategies Unlimited, the leading market research firm covering the LED industry.
The worldwide market for LED components was $13.7 billion and is expected to grow to $16.4 billion in 2017, for a CAGR of 3.7%.

A Different Area of LED Usage : GS Kalamis Swimming Pool

Galatasaray which is one of the biggest sports club in Turkey has launched its Kalamış Sports Facility in 1960 and made the opening of swimming pool in 1967 for the purpose of training and water polo games. The facility has been completely renovated in 2007 and become one of the favourite spots along bosphorus.

Illumination Ban for "City of Light"

The Energy & Environment minister of France Delphine Batho unveiled a proposal last week.
The content of the proposal was to apply a ban to all Paris shops, offices and public buildings to turn-off their indoor & outdoor lights between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. so, let the "City of Light" to go dark at night hours. 

Then the secondary phase of the plan is to apply the same to all France towns.
